Sharing your files

Let other people ask questions about a file or a folder through a chat link, email, or Slack, without giving them the files.

User manual: all pages

You can let other people ask questions about a file or a folder, without giving them the files and without giving them your companion. Their questions get answers only from what you shared, with the sources shown.

  1. In the file manager or on your desktop, right-click the file or folder and choose Share, then Share To.
  2. Choose Chat with files.
  3. Copy the public chat link and send it to the people you want.

Anybody with the link can ask questions. They cannot see your other files, and they cannot ask your companion to do anything. To stop sharing, open the same dialog and click Remove Sharing. The old link then stops working. Enable Sharing makes a new link.

Answer questions by email

In the same dialog, you can let people ask by email. List the people who may ask: single addresses, or a whole company with @company.com. When those people email your companion's address, they get an answer from the shared files. You can also add a copy (CC) address. To stop, click Turn off email Q&A.

Answer questions in Slack

You can also connect a shared folder to a private Slack channel, so that your team can ask questions there. This needs a one-time Slack setup in the Connectors app, which is easiest with help from somebody who manages your Slack.

Limits

To prevent abuse, each shared link answers about 30 questions each minute, each email sender gets about 10 answers each minute, and each Slack channel gets about 20 answers each minute.

Next: Safety and approvals.
